our approach to couples therapy-

You and your partner have finally made the decision to seek relationship counseling. That’s a big step, and it can feel overwhelming. But you’ve reached a breaking point and you really want your relationship to improve.

That’s where we come in.

When you and your partner start couples counseling with one of our holistic therapists, you’re met with a compassionate, non-judgmental environment.

We encourage you both to be vulnerable and honest in the therapy room. Healing cannot truly happen unless we unearth both the conscious and unconscious beliefs, thoughts, and feelings within both members of the relationship.

Together, we’ll gain insight into each of you as individuals, as well as your relationship itself. Understanding more about each other and your dynamic will help us move forward in the therapeutic process, which will in turn help to heal your relationship.

Our holistic approach to couples therapy also means taking the mind, body, and spirit into account. All parts of you are involved in the relationship, so integration of all of these aspects is necessary for growth.

Oftentimes, couples enter counseling because they are experiencing a problem in their relationship. While much of the work in therapy involves examining the roots of problems, we’ll also talk about the positive elements of your partnership.

Together, we’ll expand on the elements that work, and leave behind what no longer serves you both.

Reach out to our couples therapists today if you’re ready to heal your relationship using a holistic, integrative approach.

holistic couples therapy in los angeles-

On the surface, it may seem like your issues with your partner are solely emotional. Maybe you feel hurt, betrayed, or frustrated in your relationship.

Those are all valid feelings. At the same time, they are only part of the problem.

Your relationship goes beyond the emotional realm. There is also a physical and spiritual component to your dynamic with your partner. Therefore, we need to address these elements as well in order for your relationship to heal.

Our team of holistic psychotherapists work with couples to explore every aspect of their relationship in order to foster deep understanding and growth. Embracing the different parts of yourself, your partner, and your relationship will help you get the most out of couples counseling.

If you’re curious exactly how our therapists can help you integrate mind, body, and spirit with couples therapy, you’re not alone. Using a holistic approach is different from traditional therapy in which practitioners focus solely on the mind.

Treatment looks different from couple to couple, depending on each person’s unique needs and preferences. However, mindfulness is a common tool that our therapists use with most clients.

Mindfulness incorporates awareness of emotions and our physical bodies. This can help you avoid getting derailed by difficult feelings and allow you to be more present with yourself and your partner.

Practicing mindfulness can feel intimidating and overwhelming at first, especially if you’re not familiar with the concept. Our therapists can help guide you and empower you to incorporate these skills into your daily life, which can improve your own well-being as well as improve your relationship.

couples therapy FAQs-

Because couples often feel shame about seeing a couples therapist, there are a lot of unanswered questions. We want to end that stigma and answer the questions that you likely have about couples therapy.

  • Any couple, regardless of the status of their relationship, can go to couples counseling. Additionally, any couple can benefit from relationship therapy.

Although some couples’ problems are more escalated than other couple’s issues, every relationship has problems. Addressing and healing those problems is a part of every relationship.

If any of the following things sound like you and your partner, you should consider attending couples counseling in Los Angeles:

    1. You feel distant from your partner.

    2. There has been a lot of tension between you and your partner.

    3. You often fight with your partner.

    4. You and your partner’s life circumstance has changed, and that circumstance is causing problems.

    5. You feel complacent in the relationship.

Note that there are many other situations and symptoms that may be warning signs.

  • Couples therapy is similar to individual therapy.

Therapy is all about getting to the bottom of what’s really bothering you. The day-to-day stuff matters (arguments about money, kids, the dishes, inlaws, communication styles…), but we guarantee that the more profound things are really causing problems.

In most cases, both partners contribute to the tension in the relationship. So when we address the couple, we have to address the individuals. In couples therapy, you’ll learn more about yourself, your triggers, and your past and how that affects your partner.

  • You are brave for taking this first vulnerable step. That willingness to learn from and change with your partner speaks volumes about your commitment to each other.

In our experience, yes: couples counseling can sometimes save a relationship. If they can be vulnerable, open, honest, and forgiving, some couples can piece the relationship back together for lasting change.

But the work isn’t only in our office. You must apply what you learn about your relationship and partner at home. Whether the work is comprised of little things like saying thank you or bigger things like altering your communication style, you have to take what you learn and apply it in the real world.

  • We get this question a lot.

If you’re here, it may not be too late. You are willing to work with our couples therapists in Los Angeles, and that commitment to your partner speaks volumes.

However, some relationships are challenging to put back together. Some things can’t be taken back, and some situations can’t be resolved. Together, we will do whatever we can to settle the issues between you and your partner. Keep in mind that coming in sooner rather than later does typically lead to a better outcome.

  • At Highland Park Holistic Psychotherapy, we practice holistic psychotherapy. That means that we address the whole person: mind, body, and soul.

Using depth psychology, we access your mind’s nuances and the significant life moments that shape who you are. We find that this approach is highly effective.

We don’t only discuss the surface things; we get to the root of who you are and how your experiences shape how you behave and how you emote in your relationship.

  • The cost of marriage counseling (or couples therapy) varies.

If you are financially able, base your choice on who feels like the best fit for you and partner as opposed to cost. Working with a trained professional is an investment, but it’s certainly one worth making.
